The Black Horse Restaurant is nestled in the charming village of Pluckley, known for its rich history and picturesque scenery. Dating back to the 15th century, our building has witnessed centuries of change while maintaining its traditional character, from its beamed ceilings to its inviting inglenook fireplaces.

Pluckley itself has a fascinating past, once known as “Pluchelei” in the Domesday Book. The area thrived in the 13th century with weaving and milling industries, utilising water-powered mills to process local wool. Later, Pluckley became famous for its brickworks, producing the distinctive “blue” bricks used in historic buildings such as Pluckley Church. Legends even speak of ghostly apparitions wandering the old churchyard, adding to Pluckley’s reputation as one of England’s most haunted villages.
